27/006/09 - divers Jim Warny and Artur Kozlowski
So on the 27th of June during a three hour dive with Jim Warny the old lines were repaired and we regained the 1994 Dark Shamrock expedition limit at 565 m from the entrance and in a daring assault explored 625 m of new passage to reach 1290 m. The next day we fought a great battle against the spring tide current from Galway Bay to the end of the line. After a further 100 m the cave descended to -28 m and we faced some route finding problems. Finally regaining the current, we continued to a place where the cave unexpectedly turned north and started ascending over huge, terrifying slabs fallen from the roof. At -11 m any further way on was too small for us, so we reeled back to -22m and started surveying on our way out. We returned to base after 4 hours 50 minutes, with survey data for 1.5 km upstream to the current limit of exploration.
