Description and history of diving
At the bottom of the mud slope from the entrance pitch is a sump.
First dived in 1978 by Mark Campbell, who reached -8 m before retreating when the walls disappeared. Dives by Chris Jewell and Simon Cornhill in 2007 and 2008 have ended in organic flood debris, at a maximum depth of 10.5 m.

A 20 m pitch lands on a muddy slope down to a sump pool. CJ had hired 2 x 12 L cylinders as these were all that was available. It took several minutes to find the actual sump, with various small alcoves being examined initially. Extremely poor visibility, trees and other foliage made diving extremely difficult and it was aborted after reaching 5 m depth.

It was hoped that lower water conditions would provide better visibility than previously encountered. SC dived first and laid about 20 m of line down to 9 m depth but couldn’t be sure of the way on. CJ then dived down to 10.5 m but found the way blocked with mud, silt, branches, etc. These reduced the visibility to zero very quickly.
