Cave is 2 km north-north-west of Carrickmacross, approximately 300 m north-east of Aphuca River Cave.

Description

Two risings in an old quarry about 80 m apart feed a short stream that flows south to join the Mile River.

Quarry Rising North is entered from a small pool below the quarry face to the left of an old shed and lime kiln. From the pool water enters a culvert and then a cave passage which runs parallel to the quarry face and is joined by Quarry Rising South. Water from both risings flows over a gravel bank and after a short distance on the surface joins the Mile River.

Notes

Probably connects with the Aphuca River Cave in some way.

06-03-2009 - diver Artur Kozlowski, support Al Kennedy

A dive of 30 m north-west was made to an airbell, the passage matching in all respects the account in the Irish Sump Index. There was no obvious way on although arches on the left-hand side offer some hope in higher flow conditions. A small collapse of boulders from the roof of the airbell had revealed a steel sheet, and bubbles could be heard on the surface to the left-hand side of the shed.
